Cry Faerie

Picture
Faeries of the wood have washed their faces
And danced in cotton candy dresses
To songs people were ashamed to admit
That they knew by heart and soul
And after the last promenade
And the last note died
And the last bit of fishnet was pried away
They were left with only glitter in their eyes
And paint on their feet and hair
While still saying the words that got them there
Six weeks ago and six weeks forevermore
But in cotton candy dresses they flew
And left their days in Candy Corn Mountains
That ran wild with a liquid not wholly pure
And they still laughed and swayed and swore
Pretending that they didn't know
That they didn't notice
That the clock had tolled 12
And faerie time had come and gone
And the masks washed off like tears over mascara
And ran down the faces of those who'd never do this again
Who couldn't do this again despite the wishes made
Because blue light eventually fades to gold
And the magic of an hour cannot be extended to hold a life time
Though they swore it could
Though they swore it should
And the glitter left in their eyes
Eventually turns to dust as well
And flies away on tears that they don't understand
Faeries do not cry
Faeries dance in the sky and fling what magic they have
At those who can do no more than feel nothing
Faeries do not cry
Dressed to kill and to do what is asked
They can't go to the Candy Corn Mountains like that
Oh no, they wait, and they wait, and then they wait no more
Because the last assembly line has finished their rounds
And the clink of heals as she ran away is fading now
And the cotton candy dress she wore was flung off soon after too
The faeries faded as memories do after a night
Down the wild river on the Candy Corn Mountains
But she swore it was ok, the queen said it was ok
Because faeries do not cry
Their masks of mirth may run away
And turn into something close to normalcy
But faeries live in the world between dreaming and waking
And that's where their queen wishes to stay
But she had changed before it was over
And can't get back in
She whispers now, wandering aimlessly on broken heels
"Faeries don't cry, faeries don't cry, faeries don't cry...
It can't be over."
But it is
And it was when blue light faded to gold
And they danced to songs that people were ashamed to admit
They knew by heart and soul
It was then that the faeries of the wood
Washed their faces
And left their masks swirling down vacant white tunnels
Smeared with memories that faded without the aid of time
Faeries do not cry
